Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said AI use must be shaped “in the interests of humanity” ahead of meetings with world leaders and tech executives, including Apple’s Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors Tim Cook, to discuss child safety and new technology.
Albanese will meet with Cook at Apple’s headquarters in California to discuss the tech giant’s new parental controls for children, before leading the Australian delegation at the UN General Assembly in New York next week, where multilateral discussions around AI development and safety are expected to take place.
Albanese said Australia was seen as a “world leader” when it comes to online safety, “particulary in regard to children. He added the new technology could play a “critical role” but that it must work “in the interests of our nation, and indeed other nations”.
